Note: If you came here looking for gay-bashing, you’re in the wrong place.
Scientology, as you no doubt have learned by now, has plenty of negative things to say about gay people. In short, Lafayette Hubbard believed all gays should be institutionalized. With such a negative view towards gays in the literature, it’s no wonder the gays of Scientology are mostly closeted.
There have long been rumors that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are gay. Perhaps nowhere did those rumors reach as far as on South Park’s infamous ‘Trapped in the Closet’ episode. But being gay and being a Scientologist aren’t compatible beyond the basic introductory levels. Exposing one’s self as gay would lead to an immediate change in a Scientologist’s life experience. They would find themselves immediately viewed as out-ethics and 1.1 .
Security checks and a host of things would happen that would lead to more expenses and a much longer journey on the Scientology bridge, until either the gayness is “cured” or the individual leaves Scientology.
So in the end it does make sense that people who are obviously gay but afraid to admit it in Scientology act as they do. But the thing they may not understand is that staying in the closet is psychologically damaging.
As the world constantly evolves and as some countries evolve even faster in the area of homosexuality, we have plenty of research in the area. The fact is, living in America as a closeted homosexual out of fear of your life inside Scientology is an unhealthy state of affairs.
My only hope is that any gays reading this from within the church do their best to come out of the closet and join the rest of the modern world. You don’t need to be oppressed anymore: I accept you, the world accepts you. Come out of the closet.
